Change of Guard at the helm of SDGS Coordination Directorate

In the intricate machinery of Government Administration, transitions from one director to another play a crucial role in maintaining continuity and efficiency. This Morning, The SDGs Coordination Directorate bid farewell to the outgoing Director, John olela who has served in the Directorate for over a year. In the meeting which took place Thursday 4th April 2024, at their offices in Bruce House, the Directorate aslo welcomed the New Director of Planning Mr. Festus Wangwe who is joining from the State Department for Medium, Small and Micro-enterprise (MSME).

The transition happened seamlessly with Director Olela briefing on the progress in the activities of the Directorate. He reminisced the days he joined the Directorate and the far the it has come in terms of accomplishing tasks as per the mandate. He acknowledged the Team work among the staff and lauded them for the hard work and support they had given him during the period.

In his remarks, he spoke on the status of the preparation of the 2024 Voluntary National Review (VNR) and gave his assurance that it was on course as scheduled to be ready by May2 024 in readiness for the High-Level Political Forum (HLPF) that will happen in July 2024 in New York.

Director Wangwe in his remarks, thanked Director Olela for the warm welcome and the smooth transition. He added that he was proud of their long-standing working relationship since they joined the public service. He pointed out that he was stepping into shoes filled with the weight of expectation and responsibility. He reminded the team of the importance of teamwork and sense of purpose in delivering the mandate.

The SDGs team led by Chief Economist Komu thanked Director Olela for the service and for the indelible mark he left in the Directorate. They assured the new Director of their full support during the transition and into the future. The team was reminded that together, it was time to embark on the new chapter with optimism, determination, and a shared sense of purpose, knowing that the strength of the Department lies in its ability to adapt, evolve, and thrive.

Others in attendance were the staff from the Directorate among them the Economists and administrative support staff.
